24 Hours of Embroidery with FemLink in Solidarity with Amerlinghaus

Amerlinghaus bleibt – mehr, nicht weniger!

This is a space of collective care, softness and resistance.
We stitch because care is political.
We gather because our spaces matter.

📍Place: Amerlinghaus, Room 3, 1st floor

🗓 Date & Time: Sat 24.01, 12.00 (noon) - Sun 25.01, 12.00 (noon)

FemLink invites you to a 24-hour collective embroidery action in solidarity with Amerlinghaus. We’ll gather to stitch, care, and hold space together.

This action takes place in response to the city’s upcoming decision regarding the potential cut of Amerlinghaus’ funding. Such a decision would threaten a long-standing feminist, queer, migrant and grassroots space that has been central to political, cultural and community organizing in Vienna. Amerlinghaus is not just a building – it is a space of resistance, care, and collective memory. We believe it must not only stay, but be strengthened.

Through embroidery, we reclaim a practice that is often seen as “soft” or apolitical and make its political power visible. Stitching together becomes an act of solidarity, a form of protest, and a way of showing that care work and collective creativity are deeply political.

In these 24 hours, we will create a shared embroidery piece carrying our message: Amerlinghaus bleibt. Mehr. Nicht weniger.

You are welcome to join for a short time or for many hours. There is no need for embroidery experience. People who want to support through care work (making tea, holding space, checking in, tidying, etc.) are just as warmly invited.

Practical information:

  • Please bring a sleeping bag if you plan to stay overnight.

  • Bring warm clothes and snacks.

  • Materials will be provided, but you can also bring your own.

Accessibility note:

The space is on the first floor and unfortunately there is no elevator.

This action is about showing up for our spaces, for each other, and for a city that must protect independent, critical and caring infrastructures. We stitch, we gather, we resist.
